Today is Club Rotation A at ULHS. We have a new club meeting today called Model United Nations. This club was specifically requested by UL history students. Our two biggest history nerds on faculty, Mrs. Norris and Mr. Herrin, enthusiastically volunteered to be advisors for Model United Nations.
Now what is Model United Nations? Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational model of the United Nations used for simulations in which students learn about diplomacy and international relations. At a MUN conference, each student works as the representative of a country, organization, or person, and must solve a problem with other delegates from around the world.
We cannot wait to see our Model UN students in action! If your student would be interested in joining this club or any other club, click the link below to pay your dues!

Griffin High School will be hosting the Peach State Tour September 17th from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in their school gym presented by Augusta University, Georgia State University, UGA, and Georgia Tech. We will also have the Georgia Student Finance Commission on hand to provide information about college funding. We are inviting all 11th and 12th grade students to register for this event to receive admissions information.
The Peach State Tour was launched in the early 2000s by the University of Georgia (UGA) and Georgia Institute of Technology (GA Tech) to extend the reach of Georgia’s top research institutions. Today, the program includes all four Research 1 institutions in Georgia—Augusta University, Georgia Tech, Georgia State University, and UGA—along with the Georgia Student Finance Commission. The PST provides an opportunity for Georgians to engage directly with representatives from these institutions.
This year, the program features approximately 15 in-person events between late August and the end of September, strategically located within 75 miles of every Georgian.
Target Audience
The PST events are designed for students, families, school counselors, and community members across Georgia. While high school juniors and seniors and their families are the primary audience, all community members are welcome.
Registration
Registration for the Peach State Tour opened on Monday, August 5, 2024. Virtual sessions are available for those unable to attend in person. Registration can be completed at https://www.peachstatetour.org/. While the events will not be recorded, a public site will be available at the end of the tour, featuring the slide deck and viewbooks from all participating institutions.

We love taking a trip into the science labs! Students in Mrs. Miller’s chemistry class were exploring the conductivity levels of various liquids on Friday.

Students in Mrs. VanHouten's class were working on characterization posters for the novel they are reading, Between the Lines. Students were assigned a character from the novel and then worked in groups to create their characterization poster using evidence from the book. Students then took a gallery walk of each poster and gave feedback on the character and the evidence given.

Just a quick visit by Mrs. Miller's and Mrs. wheeler's classrooms today!

In Mrs. Duke's Algebra class, students are diving into systems of inequalities through an engaging puzzle activity. Each student will match a word problem with its corresponding set of defined variables, system of inequalities, and graph. This hands-on approach helps them visualize and understand the relationships between different representations of systems of inequalities, reinforcing their problem-solving skills and deepening their grasp of the concepts.

Mrs. Gaultney's students are using puzzle pieces to learn how to write formulas for ionic compounds!

College Readiness Math classes have been studying data and how it’s represented on different graphs. They collected data from their classmates and created graphs to compare categories. They calculated measures of central tendency and focused on histograms, box plots, and dot plots.

We would like to thank Thomaston Hospice for dropping off donuts for high school faculty and staff today!

We love when the community helps us, but it is especially awesome when family does it. Captain Toby Hardeman helped his daughter Morgan decorate her new classroom at the high school this pre-planning!
He did a great job on her door don't ya think??

IMPORTANT INFO: ULHS is currently unsure if the weather is going to cooperate with our plan for Community Night at Matthews Field today. ULHS administration and coaches are monitoring weather conditions via the wet bulb, which lets our coaches know if it's safe to practice outdoors. If possible, we will have a shortened series of events at the field. We certainly hope that all our UL friends and supporters understand that even though we are very proud of our new facilities and want to show them off, we are MOST PROUD of our students and their safety is ALWAYS our top priority!!! We are UL!!! (Parrish Construction Company will still be giving away bottled water while supplies last!)
