Fallyn Riney, a freshman at Upson-Lee High School, competed last week at the Super Bowl of dog shows, the Westminster Dog Show in Queens, New York. Fallyn, along with her Shetland Sheepdog, LJ, competed at Westminster against adult trainers in the breed ring for the second time along with participating in the junior competition. Fallyn has shown a lifelong love of training dogs. Fallyn first took a dog in the ring when she was just 4 years old. She was a natural presenting dogs according to her family and has experienced great success in every level of competition. In junior showmanship the kids are judged on their handling skills whereas in the breed ring the judge is comparing the dog to their breed standard so although the same person and dog may compete in both, what they are judged on is different. Fallyn and LJ, have accomplished so much in just four years working together. In junior showmanship to date, Fallyn has earned best Junior Handler 48 times and Reserve Best Junior (runner up to best) 21 times. She has won best Junior at the American Shetland Sheepdog Association National Specialty show twice and the American Whippet Club National Specialty twice. She has Qualified for the AKC National Championship in Orlando Florida every year, she has attended the show 4 times and has made it to the final twelve out of 125+ juniors twice. She has qualified for Westminster Kennel Club, the most well known show in the world, twice and came close to being one of the final 8 last year. Her dedication and hard work has been recognized by judges and is why, despite limited showing, she is currently the #3 Herding Junior, the #2 Sheltie junior and ranked seventeenth among all juniors in the USA. In the breed ring Fallyn has piloted LJ, to great heights To date he has won three herding groups, placed in numerous others, won multiple owner-handled Best in Shows, six specialty shows and a total of fifty four best of breed wins and ninety three owner-handled best of breeds. Their efforts have earned LJ top ranking in the United States, he is currently the number 4 shetland sheepdog in breed standings , #3 all-breed Sheltie, and the number one owner handled shetland sheepdog for 2024 and lifetime. Their success and Fallyn’s dedication are why her family have worked to get her to the AKC National Championship, National Specialties and Westminster Dog Show. Although we are getting to the end of LJ’s career, Fallyn still has two and a half years left in junior showmanship and she has started showing LJ’s son, Bambino in juniors to get him ready to continue the winning legacy. What an amazing talent and accomplishment! We all congratulate Fallyn (and LJ) for sharing her talents with us!

Friday afternoon, Upson-Lee High School had its 4th 9 weeks PBIS celebration. Eligible students got to shoot baskets, ride a mechanical bull, and play carnival games. The most popular activity was trying to dunk Principal English, Coach Busby, Coach Puckett, and Mr. Hendricks in the dunk tank! Students attending the PBIS celebration also got a free t-shirt. We would like to thank Upson Regional Medical Center for sponsoring the shirts, basketball goals and mechanical bull for our students!

As the year draws to an end, two of the most important events before graduation are the Underclassmen Honors Night and Seniors Honors Night. On these nights, our community, school staff, and families show up in mass to pay tribute to their students for their hard work and accomplishments. Some of the accomplishments are: 306 students received A/B Honor Award. 95 students received the All A's Award 92 students received the Principal's All A's award. Senior Honors Night also saw students receive over $600,000+ in private scholarships. In addition, over 178 students are currently eligible to receive the Hope or Zell Miller Scholarships which covers tuition costs at Georgia colleges. What an amazing week for our Knights. We are so proud of all their hard work this year!
